December 27, 2018 - AEF NEFL Event Log: It is hard to say "empty nest' here at this nest where Romeo & Juliet have nested & raised eaglets since at least 2008 and perhaps several years prior. There has never been a season like this nor has anyone ever seen this experience before in 10 years. Why are there so many females coming through the Hamlet & visiting this nest this season? We are assuming they are looking for a mate. We have seen a few in previous years, and Romeo & Juliet have escorted them away. But never anything like this, and there is no way to know of course at this point if this is going to be the norm, or this is just one of those seasons. The females who have made it to this nest have each had their own personalities. They have each been beautiful in their own way. They have survived to adulthood and that is a testament in itself to their survival skills. We will see what unfolds in the days ahead - whether or not we will see Romeo in & around the nest, and whether or not we will see any more females trying to woo him.

Season Summary: Romeo & Juliet successfully hatched two eaglets – named Peace & Hope. Hope was successfully reared by parents and fledged the nest. Peace was rescued and rehabbed by Audubon of Maitland, FL and successfully released into the wild at about 12 weeks of age.
