River Ranch Lodge was constructed in 1888 originally called the Deer Park Lodge quickly grew into a popular watering hole for travelers via the nearby railway. The building slowly declined over the great depression and then was revived in the 1950's. The 1960 Olympic Games hosted near Squaw Valley brought a number of foreign athletes and diplomats to the area who stayed at the River Ranch Lodge.
